22 May, 2020
Victory Media, the premier ratings entity providing survey-based lists for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has declared the University of Northwestern Ohio one of the top military-friendly colleges in the U.S. for 2014. Their recently published list of Military Friendly Schools recognizes the top 20% of American scholastic institutions that provide the best academic and social experience for active-duty military and veterans. Data for the 2014 list was collected from a free survey of more than 10,000 schools and over 4,000 student veterans nationwide.
Published annually, the Military Friendly Schools list provides valuable and up-to-date insight into the student veteran experience at select schools and universities. Victory Media’s methodology makes use of eleven primary criteria for evaluation. Military support on campus and academic credibility weigh the heaviest at 24% and 20% respectively, followed by percent of military students, academic credit for military service, and flexibility for military students at 10% each. Veteran graduation rates, student tuition assistance, employment rates, military spouse policies, and the results of the student survey each constitute 5% of the total score. Government approvals round up the list of criteria, for a total of 100%.
The Military Friendly Schools website offers further insight into how student veterans rate their first-hand experiences at their respective schools. Out of 4 points, UNOH students gave the university perfect marks for school environment and career services and 3.8 for veteran resources, school resources, and faculty.
What makes UNOH an outstanding choice for military students is the consideration it offers in light of the demands military mission assignments place on service members’ time. UNOH also offers a wealth of student veteran-focused financial benefits and services along with various social outlets for enrolled active-duty military and veterans. The school also takes active part in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and the Military Spouse Career Advancement Program (MyCAA).
In recognition of the services and opportunities it offers to student veterans, UNOH was named Military Advanced Education magazine’s Top Military Friendly University for 2012 and was one of the G.I. Jobs-recognized military-friendly colleges from 2010 to 2012. Beyond its military student-oriented services, UNOH has also received ACTE Awards for excellence in career and technical education, sealing its reputation as a leading institution of higher learning.
One of the most highly recommended degree programs for students with military backgrounds is UNOH’s online MBA program. The University of Northwestern Ohio MBA program helps student veterans achieve greater academic success and pursue career advancement with flexible allowances for deployments, PCS orders, and other military obligations. The program is also a smart choice for full-time working professionals who want to earn an online MBA in Ohio without compromising their current career paths.
